Inclement Weather
*Notice Alerts will sent via our automated ParentWeb system for all school delays & closings*
BCS utilizes an automated alert system for closings, delays, and emergency announcements. Parent
Alert is our alert system that allows us to quickly send out information via email, text message, or voice
message. These messages are sent out within minutes to our entire school community. As a parent,
you have the ability to set your preferences for this program.
Setting Your Parent Alert Preferences
Please make sure that your preferences are set so that the next time we send an alert, you receive
all the critical information you need.
To update your preferences for Parent Alert:
- Log into renweb
- From the left-hand navigation, select "family information"
- From the web forms menu, select "family demographic form"
- From the list that appears, click on your name.
- At the bottom of the form, fill out the "preferences" section.
The last 4 include options for Parent Alert.
In the event that the BCS schedule is affected by weather or other emergencies, families will be
notified by ParentWeb. BCS will also share announcements through WFMZ (online at www.wfmz.com).
We make every effort to give announcements by 6:45 a.m. Since our decision is
usually dependent upon all the districts transporting our students, decisions cannot always be made
until we know what they are doing. Also because they all may be doing different things, to avoid
confusion the following guidelines should help you in your decision-making process.
Typically, in the morning follow the direction of the school district that is responsible to transport your
children.
If the announcement says your transporting district has a two-hour delay:
- Your children should plan to meet/board their bus at the regular bus stop two
hours later than normal, even if BCS is opening on time. The lateness upon
arrival at BCS is excused. Students are responsible for making up any work that
is missed.
- And you choose not to use the bus transportation, you may drive your child to
BCS two hours later. The lateness is excused if arrival at BCS (please sign in at
office first) occurs no later than the announced two hour delay. Another option
would be to transport your child on time if you feel the conditions are safe
enough. However, the choice of arriving at BCS should be limited to either the
two hour delay (don't forget to sign in at the office) or the normal starting time.
Students should not be trailing in a little at a time during the whole delay time
period. This causes unnecessary stress and strain for the school office personnel
and teachers trying to account for arrival times, especially when this involves
most of the BCS student body. The same options apply to student drivers.
- As on any other day, if your child is a regular bus rider, but will not be using the
bus transportation that day, please call the transportation department of your
district to let them know, stating clearly that your child will not be needing
transportation that morning (or for the return trip home, if that is the case).
If your district announces that they have closed their schools for the day but BCS is open or has
announced a two-hour delay:
- Your children (in the closed districts) may stay home for the day as an excused
absence. They will need to make up the work they miss.
- You may bring your children to BCS at the time BCS is opening if you decide it
is safe to do so. Remember, your transporting district that has closed will not be
picking them up for the return home. You will need to transport both ways.
If BCS announces it is closed for the day and your district is open, do not send your children to BCS. No call to your transporting district needs to be made as their bus to BCS will not be operating.
If BCS announces a two-hour delay and your transporting district is on time, or announces a one-hour delay, follow the time schedule of your transporting district. BCS personnel will be there to open the door when the bus arrives and chaperone until the other later-arriving districts come.
If during the school day, a weather related event causes transporting districts to want to come to pick up their students early:
- BCS typically continues its normal school day to its completion since there will
usually
be at least one district that does not come until its regular time. - If you as a parent of any district want to come to pick up your child early to
avoid
oncoming messy weather, that is permissible. Just report to the office and have your
child sign out. Also call your district to let them know, especially if there are not many
on that bus on a normal run. - The school office will often dismiss student drivers before roads get bad, even
before
their assigned transporting districts show up to BCS. If prior parental permission has
been given from both sets of parents involved, these drivers may also take approved
riders with them at that time. - All that leave early are responsible for any work they miss.
