BCS NILD Program
Discovery Center
At Berks Christian School, we view all students as unique individuals designed by God. We created our Discovery Center to serve students with exceptional needs that require supplemental services and accommodations in the classroom
The Discovery Center serves to partner with parents and
teachers to help meet the needs of these students. We also
help implement instructional and testing accommodations in the regular classroom.
We use the methods designed by The National Institute for Learning Development (NILD). This is individualized educational therapy, which allows BCS to make Christian education possible for students with learning disabilities. These children have an average to superior intelligence, but struggle in the regular classroom due to many reasons such as: perception, processing speed, working memory, and fluency. The goal of NILD is to move the student toward independence and success in the regular classroom, and also to realize his/her God-given abilities.
Therapy consists of either two 80-minute sessions, or four 45-minute sessions. Enrollment is an annual agreement and average enrollment in the program is 3-5 years. For middle school and high school students, we attempt to do therapy during their study hall periods, so they are not missing core subjects while doing therapy.
